Dr. Hennie’s Bio

Hendrieka ‘Dr. Hennie’ Fitzpatrick (MD, IFMCP) has been exclusively practicing Functional and Integrated medicine for more than 20 years. She is Board certified in Functional and Biological medicine, as well as Family Practice.

Dr. Hennie graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Medical Ethics, and received her M.D. from George Washington University in 1981. She received her Family Medicine Board certification in 1985 from Case Western University, spending 10 years in the National Health Service Corps providing care for medically underserved people. She moved with her husband, also a physician, and her children to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she discovered a passion for understanding the root causes of chronic illness.

After years of practicing Western medicine, which is based on prescribing medications targeted at specific symptoms, Dr. Hennie realized that she did not really know how to make people feel well again. She listened carefully, cared deeply and carefully prescribed medications. But there was a missing piece.

After questioning her value as a steward of health, Dr. Hennie became a student and colleague of Thomas Rau M.D. of the Paracelsus Clinic in Lustmuhle, Switzerland. Additionally, she became certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2016 and is very grateful for these opportunities. This certification has given her tools to successfully unravel and treat medical illnesses no matter how complex. Her practice now focuses on women’s and children’s health with an emphasis on trauma informed care.

Dr Hennie says that her highest honor has been the privilege of being a mom to five fabulous, wise and loving children. She moved to the New York City area several years ago to live near these five amazing adults, and does consultations in Providence, Rhode Island.
